Mid-atlas-imperial cites & the Desert

During the 10-day Imperial Cities Tour, you'll discover royal palaces, magnificent mosques, bustling markets, and arts and crafts. The tour takes you to the Moroccan royal cities of Marrakech, Fez, and Sahara. You'll discover cultural highlights, explore special treasures, sleep in magnificent riads, and sample Morocco's unique cuisine: the adventurous south of Morocco on this round trip. From Marrakech, you'll travel in an air-conditioned van through the Middle Atlas Mountains, imperial cities, and the High Atlas Mountains to the Route of 1,000 Kasbahs.

Book this private tour that will take you to Morocco's most historic and famous imperial cities, including Meknes, Fez, and more. You won't have to deal with tour groups or coaches. Instead, you'll have your private vehicle to take you from place to place. Your guide will pack and organize your days, so you must be ready each day to explore a new landscape and learn more about the people, food, and culture.

Then you'll head up into the Atlas Mountains, discovering spectacular mountain scenery, picturesque Berber villages, and exceptional hiking opportunities. You'll also have the chance to savor local cuisine and interact with the locals, giving you a better understanding of Berber life.

Day 1 MARRAKECH – OUZOUD – IMI N IFRI – BENUMELLAL:

The journey will start from your Riyad / hotel in Marrakech. After breakfast, we will join you in your hotel and will assist you accordingly. We will head to the waterfalls of Ouzoud (about 3 hours drive). We will stop there for you to enjoy the landscape, take photos, resting a bit within nature. After that, a visit to Iminifri: 1037 meters above the level of the sea and is situated 6 km from the city of Demnate. The Imnifri village (populated by 200 or 300 people) is a Berber village whose inhabitants are living from agriculture and animal rearing. The real wealth of this village lies in the hearty hospitality and generosity of its people. There is also the Iminifri bridge, a natural arch launched on the lake and forms an imposing dimension and it is nothing but a huge rock formed earlier by the river. After the visit, we will stop for local fresh menthe tea in a Berber village. We will head off to Beni Mellal via Benlwidan Lake (situated between two rivers: Oued Lâabid and Oued Ahansal). The beautiful landscape is urging you to a stop for memorable pictures, to freeze the moment and translate it into a story. Lunch will be served in the restaurant and we will get to Beni Mellal late afternoon. Overnight in a hotel or guest house.

Day 2 BENI MELLAL – FEZ:

After your breakfast in your hotel/guest house, the journey will start towards Fes: another imperial city, one of the oldest cities in Morocco. Before getting to Fes, we will visit the Roman Ruins, Volubilis, from 25 BC. After that visit, we will stop for lunch and then head to Fes through Moulay Driss Zarhoun (one of the first Moroccan sovereigns), visit the shrine there, and then transfer to your booked hotel/guest house.

Day 3 GUIDED VISIT OF THE CITY OF FEZ :

You will be served the tasty tradition Fessi breakfast, and after that, our driver will join you and pick you up for a guided tour in the city. Fes is famous for its unique narrow streets and its typical traditional atmosphere. It also has its historical background that is heavy with considerate information and therefore monuments. We will start by the palace of LA PORTE ROYAL (Royal Door), the Mellah: Jewish neighborhood, the first constructed neighborhood in Fez Morocco ever since the 16th century. We will take care of your guided tour which will be pregnant of so much information as it is a heavily ancient city. Not to forget the memorable and decent AL QARAOUINE, the first university and the oldest monument in Fes, the tanneries, the Attarine museum, and the shrine of Moulay Driss. Lunch will be served in any of the restaurants of your choice.

Day 4 FEZ – IFRANE – AZROU – MIDELT – ERRACHIDIA – ERFOUD – MERZOUGA:

As usual, breakfast will be served in your houseguest. After that, we will be heading to the Merzouga Desert via Midelt and the Valley of Ziz. The trip will start by passing by the fancy village of Morocco. The Moroccans love to call it Moroccan Switzerland. It is about the village of Ifran, known for its splendid nature and very clean and homogenous structure. This trip will enable you to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Middle and High Atlas. A stop for photos will be a must once we arrive in the Berber village of Azrou which is nestled in the heart of the Cedar forest, the biggest forest in Morocco. The journey reaches its end arriving at Midelt where you will spend the night in a luxury hotel.

Day 5 GUIDED DAY IN MERZOUGA AND CAMEL SAFARI:

This day will start early to enjoy the sunrise over the Dunes Chebbi. The guide of Camels will join you in the guest house and assist you. Breakfast in the guesthouse and then the guided tour will start. The first spot will be visiting the Gnawa (people originally brought to Morocco from Sudan as an act of slavery). The Gnawa people will make you discover their lifestyle and their spirituality. Not far away lays the lake of Merzouga famous for its huge mass of different birds. The visit carries on to a nomadic home where you can enjoy the nomadic art and craft of Berber. The Camel trek is the following step with an experienced guide who will make you visit the sea of the golden sand in Erg Chebbi. When the night comes, dinner will be in a nomadic tent where you will also spend the night (the tent is highly equipped and there is also a water-flush toilet).

Day 6 MERZOUGA – RISSANI – TINJDAD – TODRA GORGES – DADES GORGES:

As the previous day, your waking up will be early. The camel guide will be waiting for you to enjoy the sunrise of this area, known as the best spot where the sun shines its best beauty. Then direction by camels to Merzouga village where you will be enjoying the beauty of the spectacular Erg Chebbi dunes that colorfully change the light during the day. Breakfast will be in a Riyad, and direction after that to Rissani, then a short stop in Alkhamliya where you will be witnessing a beautiful spectacle of Gnawa and its unique style and eventually the Gorges of Todra –the highest gorges in Morocco- After lunch right in the heart of the gorge, we will carry on through the Dades Valley and you will be witnessing majestic castles of sand and rocks forming magnificent figure generally called the “monkey toes”. Overnight is in a Kasbah or Inn.

Day 7 DADES VALLEY – ROSE VALLEY – OUARZAZATE – AGDZ – ZAGORA:

The trip will start after breakfast through Dades Valley to Kalâat Mgouna and Ouarzazate. The road through Dades Valley is where you can contemplate the thousand Kasbahs, just a perfect spot for freezing the time into pictures to show your beloved ones. Stop will be in Kalâat Mgouna, known as the Capital of Roses, and then we will carry on through Skoura Ouarzazate. Lunch will be in a local restaurant and will carry on to Zagora where you will have an overnight sleep either in a hotel or a nomadic tent.

Day 8 ZAGORA – TAMGROUTE – AIT BEN HADDOU – MARRAKECH:

After breakfast in your hotel/tent, the day will start by visiting the Coranic library called Tamgroute and then we will head to the village of Agdez where we can visit the Kasbah of Tamnougalt before returning to Ouarzazate via Tizi -n-Tinfifte (1660 M).  Once in Ouarzazate, we will visit an off-road Fint Oasis placed in the heart of the mountains as a hidden pearl and this will promise you a fantastic natural majestic landscape. Of course, cameras will be the best device here to capture the joy and beauty in hand. Then we will head to Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou (the oldest and biggest Kasbah in the area, famous as it belonged to and built by the famous ruler of Marrakech in the 18th century Glaoui Ethami). The journey carries on through the splendid pass of Tizi’n Tichka (2260 M) on the high Atlas and it ends in Marrakech where your night will be in a guesthouse or hotel.

Day 9 GUIDED DAY IN MARRAKECH:

Marrakech will welcome by its beautiful weather and its fantastic breakfast on the roof top or in the serene gardens. Your guide will be more than happy to join you in your place. He will propose to you the itinerary and will explain the journey of the guided tour. He will make you visit the most important monuments and spots with heavy historical and cultural importance: namely the Saaidian Tombs, Bahia Palace, Badii Palace, and the Coranic School “Medrassa Ben Youssef. Lunch will be in a restaurant near the Square. The afternoon will be dedicated to the gardens namely the Majorelle Garden, the Menara Garden, and the Koutoubia Garden. After dinner, a walk around the authentic Jamâa El Fan Square will be just a must to enjoy the nightly spectacles around this beautiful square. The snake charmers, magicians, story tellers, fortune tellers and the food street will make your excursion end just beautifully. Overnight in a luxurious Riyad or hotel.

Day 10 MARRAKECH DEPARTURE

Depending on your flight schedule, we will be more than happy to assist you and drop you off at the airport for your departure.
